Renewed canteen-service for DSM-Heerlen, NL - january 2005
The canteen-service from DSM is a functional, dishwashersafe service. Even after years of intense use there is only a few scratches to perceive at its surface. In contrary to the breakable, precious and pampered crockery with nostalgic designs from “grandma” where I also work with. I wanted to combine these contrasts by restyling the oldfashioned flower motives and then apply them to the daily used canteen service with DSM-logo. The Dutch red/white/blue colours refer to the Dutch origin of the cups and saucers itself (designed by Piet Stockmans, produced by MOSA, Maastricht, NL). The flower motives bring back a nostalgic feeling. By re-baking the used canteen-service I added a permanent design that also re-stored the slightly scratched, obviously used canteen-service using a high-temperature baking process.
